Education Collaborative Will Resume Search For Superintendent: Carl Cohn Removes Himself from Consideration

(Washington, DC) In a conference call this morning, members of the education collaborative discussed the decision of Dr. Carl A. Cohn to withdraw his name from consideration as a candidate for the position of superintendent of DC public schools. Dr. Cohn informed members of the collaborative yesterday by telephone of his decision. Dr. Cohn cited professional commitments and personal considerations in California that would prevent him from serving the District in a full-time capacity at this time.

Mayor Anthony A. Williams, School Board President Peggy Cooper Cafritz, Council Chairman Linda W. Cropp and members of the collaborative remain committed to continuing their dialogue with the school board and will urge the board to continue its search for qualified candidates to serve in the position of superintendent of DC public schools.

Members of the collaborative agreed that the education summit planned for next month should take place but at a future date to be determined.

School Board President Cafritz assured the members of the collaborative that interim superintendent Robert C. Rice has expressed his commitment to continue to serve as interim superintendent.
