NEW APPOINTMENTS TALKING POINTS

Today, I am appointing:

  • Thomas Brady as Chief Business Operations Officer
  • Meria Joel Carstarphen as Chief Accountability Officer
  • Capers Brown as Executive Consultant Contracts and Acquisitions
  • Nicole Conley, Director, Resource Allocation and Management
  • Mark Truax, Director, Food and Nutrition Services

These appointments are part of a long-term effort to boost the achievement of students and improve the efficiency of central office operations.

These appointments:

  • helps us refocus and refine our efforts to improve our academic programs in DCPS in a manner that will provide greater opportunities for academic success for our students

For example, the new position of Chief Accountability Officer will bring together student attendance, student performance, testing and professional development and at the same time create a framework for a stronger campus accountability system than we have had in the past.

  • Results in fewer people reporting directly to me

These changes compresses the management structure and makes it more efficient and more effective. For example, academic programs will now report to the Chief Accountability Officer.

  • These changes address some of the key concerns in the Council of Great City Schools assessment of DCPS from November, 2003.
