[The following testimony was presented to the Board of
Education at its April 21, 2004 meeting]
SALUTE TO THE BOARDApril 21, 2004 Good evening my fellow DC residents. I'm Ron Drake. I'm treasurer of the recall Tony Williams movement. In my many appearances before this Board, we have often clashed over the Montgomery County takeover of DCPS. I have opposed it. The Board has acquiesced in it. But tonight I am here to praise the Board for standing firm against Tony Williams' efforts to seize control of our school system. This is the same Tony Williams who submitted fraudulent nominating petitions to the Board of Elections and Ethics, demanded to use the names on those fraudulent petitions, and then told the Board of Elections to go ahead and prosecute those who committed the election fraud in his name. The same Tony Williams who Kevin Chavous has described as more detested in Ward 7 than Marion Barry ever was in other wards. The same Tony Williams who mismanaged Youth Services Administration. The same Tony Williams whose State Education Office can't even get it right to feed hungry children in the summertime. The same Tony Williams who closed D.C. General Hospital and then says he did the right thing. The Tony William who wanted to sell the UDC campus, until he found out that election as Mayor didn't make him king. The same Tony Williams, who, when he learned about lead in the water, first did nothing. The same Tony Williams who circumvented District procurement regulations and gave away millions of District dollars on leases to political friends. The same Tony Williams who, if given control of DCPS's vast real estate holdings, will once again reward special developers, without so much as a fare thee well to minority contractors in this city. Member of the Board, we are comrades in arms tonight against our mutual adversary, Tony Williams. I salute you. |
