Washington Interfaith Network Endorses Fenty School Reform Legislation

As the DC Council hearings on Mayor Adrian M. Fenty’s proposal for education reform draw to a close today, the Washington Interfaith Network (WIN) announced its endorsement of the Mayor’s Education Initiative. WIN is a city-wide, multi-faith non-partisan citizens organization made up of a coalition of 48 congregations, unions, and community organizations.  It represents over 25,000 District families.

“The Washington Interfaith Network shares my top priority of ensuring a world-class education for all of our students.  I thank the Washington Interfaith Network for their leadership and dedication to improving every aspect of our school system and their enthusiastic endorsement of my school reform plan,” said Mayor Fenty.

“Reforming DC schools is first and foremost about political will and leadership.  Mayor Adrian Fenty has both.  He brings the drive, urgency and commitment necessary to change DCPS’s culture of indifference and low-performance.  Most importantly, Mayor Fenty wants to be held directly accountable for school performance.  DC youth deserve the best and they should be the direct responsibility of the city’s top leaders,” said Rev. Lionel Edmonds, WIN Co-Chair and Pastor, Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.
